You Taught Me How To Love
Copyright © 2006 For The Men in My Family

While we still have breath, I want you to know
That you taught me that I had the Glow
Brighter than the Last Dragon
You cautioned me to watch who stepped into my light
The universe brought on striking meteors
Volcanoes that erupted but didn't interrupt my life
With each tear that wanted to fall, you stopped them on contact
Letting me know those who rejected me weren't ready to have me as a wife.

As I continue to journey on this road to success
Your loving kindness keeps me from distress
I am your daughter, your grandchild, sister and niece
Seeing your strength puts me at peace.

You are the epitome of what manhood should be
Your wives never want, your children never need
You pray so that when it is my time to walk down the aisle
You won't be giving me away, but giving my husband to be
A chance to live up to the men you've been to me.

Thank you for being the men who loved me first.
